Titled EXODUS, the workshop does not promise arrival, but rather a constant departure—towards the unknown.
The “EXODUS” Butoh Laboratory is not designed to teach technique or reproduce form—it is a process of unlearning, confronting, and revealing. Participants will not walk away with choreography or repertoire, but with a revealed sense of body and space, and an unexpected encounter with dance.
It is a meeting with Butoh as life, and life as a continuous, open-ended exodus. Never get caught by the wish to impose meaning on it. Let it just dance!
Dancer is dance, and dance is dancer. Everything in your life is your dance. It is an exploration of your dance, harboring extravagant possibilities.
This workshop is open to everyone, but demands sincere engagement. Each day includes solo and group explorations, guided improvisation, and silent observation.
Mutsumi and Neiro studied with Yoshito Ohno, one of the legendary Butoh dancer. They are recognised experts in Kazuo Ohno Dance Studio’s legacy, which encompasses Butoh’s life practice and essence, alongside their contemporary approach, offering a unexpected experience and perspective on presence for all kinds of people.
In recent years, they have actively presented Butoh performances across various countries, including “Pink River” at Theatre Xcai/Tokyo (2023); “Tonight or Never…” at CPT SESC/São Paulo(2024), at Chiesenhale dance/London(2025); and “8000000000000/Haccho” at Gamle Munch Museum (TekstLab Festival)/Oslo(2025).
