  • Your Body, Whose Choice?
  • Gender is not something we are, but something we continuously do.
  • Through gestures, clothing, language, and attitudes, gender is not an innate essence but something continuously produced through repeated performances in everyday life.
  • The artist, Chih-Wei Lu, is from Taiwan. In Taiwan, wearing a school uniform skirt is a shared embodied experience for many girls throughout their primary and secondary school years. Drawing from this collective memory, the artist developed “Watch Out!”, a dance theatre work that explores body politics and gender stereotypes through the embodied experience of wearing a skirt, basketball, and the apple as choreographic elements. The work exists in both duet and solo versions.
  • In this workshop, participants will identify and examine the gender codes embedded in everyday life, beginning with their own embodied experiences. Through the creative methodologies developed in “Watch Out!”, they will experiment with strategies such as sharing, transformation, expansion, and contrast to translate personal experiences into theatrical narratives. As part of the artist’s ongoing creative research and sharing practice, this workshop invites participants to discover collective embodied experiences within intimate personal stories, deconstruct established ideas of gender, and explore new possibilities for reinterpretation.
  • Notes for Participants:
  • ‧ Participants of all genders are warmly welcome.
  •  ‧ This workshop may involve sharing personal embodied experiences. You are always free to decide whether and how much you wish to share.
  • ‧ Together, we will create a safe, trusting, and supportive environment for exploration.

  • The Space Between Touches
  • What happens in the space between touch?
  • Within the interplay of space, weight, speed, temperature, gaze, texture, and other sensory experiences, how can we discover deeper layers of physical expression and nonverbal communication between touch?

This workshop draws on the conceptions and practices from Contact Improvisation and Partner Acrobatics, combining them with playful improvisational scores to explore a wide range of approaches to partnering. Participants will gradually develop their practice through exercises in touch, weight sharing, nonverbal communication, and partner improvisation, eventually creating short duet studies. In a safe and trusting environment, participants will experience the creator’s working methodology while expanding their creativity and developing their own unique movement vocabulary.

  • Notes for Participants:
  • ‧ Please be aware that this workshop involves physical touch.
  • ‧ Together, we will create a safe, trusting, and supportive environment for exploration.
  • ‧ We respect each participant’s personal boundaries and individual comfort levels, and we will establish shared agreements to support our exploration together.
