Film Screenings – Saturday 3 and 10 May 2025, 6.45pm
  • Queer East returns to Centre 151 to present Come Dance With Me on Saturday 3 May 6.45pm and ★ (un)Imaginary Swords ☆ on Saturday 10 May 6.45pm.

Come Dance With Me
Over two decades, Lai Lai Ballroom became famous amongst Shanghai’s gay community, and was popular with middle-aged and elderly gay men. ‘Lai Lai’ translates as ‘Come, Come!’, and was a welcoming encouragement for those who felt outcast. With tender insight, Yunyi Liu and Bozhi Wei’s film takes a close look at this space of sanctuary, and the sense of community it created for the lonely souls who used to frequent it.

★ (un)Imaginary Swords ☆
★(un)Imaginary Swords ☆ is a multidisciplinary event combining artist films, moving image works, and an experimental sound performance that examines the interplay between mass media and fandom culture—how they shape, challenge, and subvert constructs of gender, identity, and power dynamics.
The screening is preceded by The Gourmet Critics, a live performance by Zhuyang Liu and Lil Soap. The Gourmet Critics is a cheeky, grotesque, and brain-sizzling deep dive into what happens when two food critics sit down to critique a peculiar dish: each other’s brains.
